"Alveston Girls, Go Go Go !!"

6 A-Side Tournament Details

July 2009:- Redditch Referees Tournament.

Despite having 5 players unavailable due to other activities we still managed to put out 2 strong 5 a-side teams for this tournament which saw us up against teams from Leamington Lions, Headless Cross and Redditch United. The top 4 teams progressed into the semi-fianls and one of our teams started well unbeaten in there first 4 matches and they did enough to qualify in 3rd place. Our other team started slower losing a couple of early matches but then winning there last 2 group matches to claim the 4th place in there very last match. One team then went behind to Headless Cross in the semi-finals before Georgie equalized and thens cored the winner seconds before the end. Our other team took on Leamington lions and in the last minute of extra time the ball fell to Stav who controlled it before scoring the winning goal. So our 2 teams met in the final with Georgie scoring the winner allowing captain Kristi to lift the trophy on what was a great day for Alveston as a club and sees us end our summer of tournaments on a real high. Well done to all the players who took part and thanks for all the support both teams received on the day, it is very much appreciated.

June 2009:- Alveston Tournament.

The weather was awful and rained the whole day! We again entered 2 teams and both sides scored plenty of goals and won lots of matches. 1 team failed to get out of the group stages despite playing some good matches while the other side got through to the semi finals where they beat Boldmere Falcons before beating holders Leamington Lions in the final to win the tournament. Again great support from the parents despite the weather and both sides can be proud of there efforts on a terrible day for weather. Was good to see so many girls enjoying themselves playing for the Alveston teams, well done to both squads.

May 2009:- Brinklow Tournament.

We entered 2 teams on this hot day in a small tournament of 6 teams which included favourites Coventry City. All the players played really well and both teams took the lead against Coventry which was excellent. 1 team did lose 1 v 2 but the other drew 1 v 1 with Coventry both of which were great results. Alveston scored loads of goals and 1 team finished 4th while the other came runners up to Coventry City. A good showing by the whole squad and a good work out for all the players. Confidence can be gained by everyone and the large crowd were given a good afternoons entertainment, we are always pleased with the support so thank you to everyone who made the journey.

May 2009:- S.C.I. 4 Day Tour to Brean Sands To Enter National Competition.

7 Teams entered this high quality competition from as far away as Northants, Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Bristol and Leicester. Our squad of 12 girls travelled along with parents for this 7 a-side competition not really knowing how we would get on. Day 1 started with a good draw against the leicestershire side in excellent weather. Despite having most of the early play we tasted defeat by 2 goals in game 2 and another against the eventual winners by 1 v 3 in game 3. Hannahs goal was the only goal the opposition was to conceede all tour. We finished the 1st day on a high when Chloe's goal was enough for 3 points from our lat match. Day 2 saw boiling weather which suited us as in game 1 we ran out 3 v 1 winners with goals from Stav 2 ( Including a headed goal! ) and from Chloe. A win in our last group game 1 v 2 with goals from Stav 2 in a game we fell behind in saw us finish the group in a fantastic 3rd place. Then in the 3rd/4th place play off the game ended in a draw meaning we kept our 3rd place. So 3 wins, 2 draws and just 2 defeats in such a big tournament is something the whole squad can be very proud of. Hannah, Stav and Laura all captained the sides during the weekend. I have to say a huge thank you to all the parents who came along and helped and to everyone who actually travelled down to watch and support the girls on site at the matches. The girls recieved there awards on the great presentation night from ex-Liverpool player Neil ' Razor ' Ruddock. Well done girls, very proud of you, good luck in the rest of this summers tournaments.

Saturday July 12th 2008:- CallowBrook Swifts 5 A-Side Tournament.

We had some players unavailable but still entered 2 strong teams who both performed really well on the day which saw showers and sunshine. Becky and Mae captained the 2 teams which saw 12 teams in 2 groups of 6 with the top 2 going through from each. Beckys team started with 3 draws but no goals conceeded, then a 1-0 defeat against the eventual winners and then a great 1 v 1 draw against our friends from leamington Lions despite going behind. Great effort, good teamwork, some new girls playing very well. Maes team started with a 5 v 0 win the biggest win all day, then 2 more wins 2 v 0 and 3 v 0. So 10 goals and none conceeded. Then a 2 v 0 defeat to the host team then a dramatic last group match. Alveston only needed a draw but went behind. With only seconds remaining Hayley saw her shot saved only for Mae to score from the rebound and put them into the semi-finals. Here they lost 1 v 0 to the tournament winners. Great to see 2 strong Alveston teams in 1 day, plenty of positive performances and an enjoyable time had by all. Well done everyone.

Saturday June 21st 2008:- Alcester.

All the other managers blamed us for using up all the good weather at our own tournament recently! The drizzly weather didnt dampen down the girls attitude towards the days matches and they all gave 110% and played some really nice football. 4 wins and 2 draws, conceeding just 1 goal all day and scoring 7 goals themselves was enough for the girls to clinch the tournament as winners. They made the 2 new girls feel welcome, they passed the ball around and took there chances when they came along and deserved the trophy at the end of it all. Well done girls for a great team effort, you were all winners today.

Saturday June 14th 2008:- Leamington Hibs.

Well done girls on finishing as Runners-Up in todays tournament. Another good day all round. Warm dry weather, great team spirit, some goals loads of fun and a medal for all the players at the end. Huge thanks to the new girls who played for us today, thought you did very well and contributed to the squad doing so well, you look like you enjoyed it too. Hayley and Stav scored the goals that enable us to beat Marston Green twice. We couldnt quite overcome the hosts Leamington but still another successfull day. Thanks to all who played and for Laura and Abigail for being Captains for the day.

Sunday June 8th 2008:- Alveston Tournament,

On a boiling hot sunny day 12 teams battled it out in 2 leagues. Jessica captained 1 team which won its first game of the day. However after that they struggled to score goals and came up against some strong teams. Robyn looked skillfull up front supported by Rianne. Charlotte battled well along with Amy and thanks go to Robyns friend Jessica for completing the line up. Well done girls great effort in the heat by all of you. The other team was captained by Hayley and they won there group after winning 4 and drawing 1 of there games. Mae and Stav were scoring the goals while Jihea and Laura looked quality in defence with Fiona not troubled too much in goal. In the semi finals they met Leamington who just pipped them by 1 goal. However the team finished on a high by beating last years winners Lichfield 3-1 to clinch 3rd spot. Fantastic effort and tiring again in the heat. Entertainment from both teams who represented Alveston well. Thanks girls.

Sunday May 11th 2008 Admirals J.F.C. 6 A-Side Tournament.

Last year our girls failed to progress out of the group stages but this year there performance level had risen much higher and they were able to progress much further due to this improvement and the players committment and excellent attitude on the day saw them reach the semi-finals.

Alveston opened the girls tournament and within 2 minutes had scored a super goal. Stav won the ball in midfield beat her opponent and set off on a run down the right. She whipped in a pacy cross which saw Hayley on the end of it and her first time shot flew past the keeper, what a start to the day. Opponenents Netherton Harriers seemed unable to mount much in reply but did win themselves a corner which saw Alveston score a 2nd goal! Abigail punched the corner clear the ball fell to Stav who ran the whole length of the pitch held off all the defenders before scoring a great goal to seal the girls first win. Charlotte used some excellent ball control and fed some good passes forward but there was little to trouble Captain for the day Jihea in defence.

Alvestons 2nd match was against Brinklow and again Alveston went straight onto the attack. Stav saw her shot hit the side netting while Rianne had a good run beating a couple of defenders but her shot went wide. Abigail had no shots to save this game either and from a free kick taken by Stav the ball fell to Rianne who forced the ball home to secure 3 more points.Hayley and Stav were combining well, while Charlotte and Rianne controlled the midfield.

Our last group match was against Bedworth United who hadnt lost so far but drawn both there games. Abigail made a couple of good early saves in the strong sunshine, while Hayley saw her shot well saved. Stav and Rianne were tackling like the Tigers our team was named after on the day and they kept going all day. Charlotte cleared away an attack and the ball fell again to Stav. She went left beat her opponent and scored the games only goal with her left foot. 3 wins out of 3, no goals against, and after 5 matces Alveston were the only team to of scored in the group!

The Quarter-Finals was when the real fun started, as favourites Marston Green and home side Admirals had been in the other group. However as group winners we were paired with Fleckney Athletic who hadnt won a game up until that point. But we all know football is a funny game and there large group of supporters went wild when after 2 minutes they took the lead when 2 strikers combined well to out number our defence. Credit to the girls whose heads never dropped despite staring defeat in the face. Hayley shot wide, Stav hit a post as Alveston pressed for an equalizer. It came when Rianne shot from long range and as we waited for the keeper to collect the ball it hit a patch of rough grass and bobbled past her into the empty net. The Alveston girls cheered with delight and it was all out attack for the winner, great to see. From a corner Hayleys effort went over the bar, then she shot at the keeper while Stav shot powerfully wide. But as the game headed for extra time a clearance fell to Hayley she pushed the ball forward and before she could be tackled, shot low into the bottom corner for the winning goal. 4 games 4 wins.

The Semi-Final saw us paired with host team Admirals whose crowd of supporters were a plenty. Alveston appeared a little tired at this stage but were 1 step away from the final. The game appeared even but Admirals were doing most of the attacking early on. Abigail, Jihea and Charlotte were coping until a penalty was awarded to Admirals who scored to take the lead. Alveston looked to attack more but gave away a free kick from which the host side made the game safe at 2-0.

Rianne, Hayley and Stav all scored 2 goals each, Abigail, Jihea and Charlotte only saw  3 goals conceeded in all 5 matches and the girls did Alveston really proud with a great effort in hot conditions. There was excitement, fun and and a good team spirit amongst the girls who all helped and supported each other throughout the day. well done girls it was a pleasure to watch.

It was great to see 22 girls all playing for Alveston under 12 teams at our tournament on Sunday, a fact that was commented on by several other teams who struggled to find enough girls to even enter just 1 team. Well done to everyone who played, it was very hot, and i hope it was enjoyable for everyone. Congratulations to the Lions who managed to top there group and in all 7 games they played conceeded just 1 goal all day! The Lions came 4th in the tournament and collected the first medals for any Alveston girls team, well done girls. Thanks to everyone who helped out on the day and a special mention also to Amy, Bronia and Hayley who all gave up there Saturday and ran the sweets/drinks stall at the tournament and took an amazing £300 in just 5 hours all on there own. The club did appreciate you 3 doing that.

Lillington Rangers Tournament. 2007

This is being held on Sunday June 24th 2007 and is a 6 a-side tournament. We have entered 2 teams and can use girls from current school years 6 and 7 so not current year 5 i am afraid. Can anyone who is not available please let me know as soon as possibl;e please. The 2 teams will be announced at training next Tuesday, both teams will wear the main squad kit. Rough times at this stage are that we have to be there by 9.00am and it goes onto about 2.30pm.

Well the rain came down for todays tournament but it didnt dampen the attitude of the girls playing for our 2 teams. With 6 teams playing in the one group the aim this morning was to pick two teams that would both be able to qualify out of the group stages by both finishing in the top 4 places.

Becky was captain of the one team and they started off with a draw against the eventual winners who only equalized in the last minute. Another draw followed against Stratford girls, so 2 points from 2 games, a steady start. A win against Leamington Hibs meant they had 4 of the 5 points needed to qualify with 2 games still to go. The team was playing positive football with a good effort and attitude from all the players. Another draw against the other Alveston team secured qualification and another draw in there final group game saw them remain unbeaten in the group matches. When Charlotte Burns scored in this match the whole of our touch line support went mad with delight, little did anyone else realize we were celebrating Charlotte scoring her first ever goal for the club. A special moment for us all! This was a quality effort, well achieved by the whole team led by Becky who made some very powerful runs forward leading by example.

Rianne was captain of the other team and we now wanted to see if they could join there team mates in the semi finals. They started with a win against Stratford and a draw so 3 points from 2 games. Another draw saw them edge nearer before defeat against the eventual winners left them still needing a point to be sure from there last game. They delivered a good strong win to take them through in 2nd place in the group. Goals from Jess and Bronia helped gain the points along with tireless running from both Rianne and Hayley with solid defence from both Jihea and Fiona.

Mission accomplished with 2 Alveston teams in the 4 team line up for the semi finals. Beckys team were up first against the eventual winners but it was just one match too many as they couldnt find a win to go through. It wasnt for the lack of effort from everyone. Riannes team had to play Stratford again and after a goal less draw after extra time it was penalties. Fiona managed to save two and we scored 2 so into the final they went with a medal secured. Tired legs managed to hold Leamington to a score less match, but with 1 minute left of extra time Leamington scored the only goal to win the tournament. Riannes team collected the Runners-up trophy and medals.

It was a good day for the girls section of the club showing our strength in depth to get both team into the semi finals, and i was very proud of the effort given by all players. We all thank you for the support you gave both teams, they do appreciate it. Thats the end of the season for this squad. The new squad will be announced this Tuesday from which the teams for the Redditch tournament will be selected from.

CallowBrook Swifts Tournament. 2007

We entered 2 teams selected from the new seasons squad for this Redditch tournament. It was only 5 a-side and played on smaller pitches with different rules to those we are used to. One of our teams finished 3rd in there group of 6 teams so missed out on the semi finals by 1 point. Stav scored 2 goals and Hayley scored 3 in there matches but it just wasnt enough for them to qualify. Our other team won 3 and drew 2 of there group games to finish as group winners and so reach the semi finals. Bronia and Rebecca seemed able to score the goals at just the right moments with Deanna playing some excellent battling football in defence to keep out the opposition. Fiona did what she had to do in goal making some good push over saves, with new girl Laura contributing well too.The team was captained by Charlotte Pennington, who ran all day for them today.

In the semi-finals they won again 1 - 0 and so reached the final. Once again they scored 1st and then held on and defended this lead until the final whistle meaning they were tournament winners. This was another excellent day for Alveston Girls football with both teams showing great effort and committment on the day in what was a very competitive tournament. To come away with the winners medals was a real bonus and was well deserved by all the girls. Well done everyone, Winners!

To be able to see how much the whole squad has grown and improved since the club first started this girls team just twelve months ago is fantastic. Over the summer weeks some more hard work during training and a positive attitude by everyone should see this progression continue even further.
