"Alveston Girls, Go Go Go !!"

Team

 Team History.

12 of the squad for the season 2006/2007 all went to school together at the Willows Primary school in Stratford Upon Avon, some were in the yast year of school, year 6 and others in year 5 at the time, which was in June 2006. At the end of that school year the girls took part in a couple of inter school 6 a-side football tournaments, reaching the finals of both and winning one of them after a penalty shoot out. They also played a couple of friendly matches against other local schools.

They all seemed to enjoy playing these competitive matches and spoke about the possibility of being able to continue playing girls football once they had left Primary school. They really wanted to stay together as a group and not split up into different teams. Alveston Football Club mentioned that they ran many boys team but had never had a female team of any age group. A meeting was held and after some discussions it was decided to hold some trials to see if there was enough interest from girls in order to form a girls football team within that age group.

18 Girls attended the trials and after the selection process 16 were accepted into Alveston Football Clubs first ever girls football squad at the under 12 age group. The team was entered into the well run and large Central warwickshire Girls Football League which has teams from across the region competing at all different age groups. Martin Ashton was appointed as Team Manager. The team were allocated a pitch to share for the season at The Home Guard Club in Tiddington, Stratford Upon Avon.

Training began during the summer of 2006 and some friendly matches were arranged during the summer in order to help the girls prepare for the start of the season in September 2006. They even played a game against a visiting under 14' s age group team from America which was good to be involved with. The squad continue to train every Monday evening between 6.00pm and 8.00pm and new players are always welcome to join in and maybe try to earn a place within the girls squad.

A local sponsor was found in Stratford Solicitors, Geoffrey Parker Bourne who have offered great support to the girls who are very grateful for the support given to them. The team look great in there new Kit. In that first season the squad finished in 10th place in the league.

In Season 2 at under 13's age group the squad continued to develop and finished the leagues season in an improved 7th place scoring a lot more goals than in season 1 and enjoyed far more success on and off the pitch.

Then in season 3 at under 14's age group the squad really came into there own. They improved the squad by adding some really quality players to the core of the existing squad who remained loyal to Alveston Girls F.C. 4th place in the league showed continued improvement, real success at some summer tournaments and more successes against national opposition on a summer tour proved a real highlight for the whole squad. A new shirt sponsor came forward in the shape of Safeway Scaffolding, another new striker signed ready for season 4 at under 15's age group and the girls feel ready to go ahead of the new 2009 / 2010 season ahead of them.
